Established in 1988 on the corner of Ballyhaunis Road, Claremorris (where Clár IRD now stands), The Food Store began as Niall Heffernan Meats, a small butchery run by Niall and Attracta Heffernan. With incredible support from the local community of Claremorris, the store grew in popularity and it wasn’t long before it expanded into dairy products and groceries.

In 1998, Niall Heffernan Meats left its original setting on Ballyhaunis Road and moved into its new home across from the Post Office. It was here the Heffernan ambitions were realised and the store became The Food Store – Butchery, Bakery & Delicatessen.

The Food Store specialises in producing and sourcing the best local and international food for their customers. It’s important to us that our customers can trust the quality of our food. Our dedication to that commitment is recognised in the numerous national and international award winning products across The Food Store butchery, bakery and delicatessen.

Our delicious breads, cakes and baked treats are made fresh in store daily. The bakers at The Food Store also make novelty cakes, birthday cakes & wedding cakes to order.  Our deli produces a wide range of healthy salads, soups and sandwiches alongside hearty meals that are ready to eat or take home and heat.

Niall’s own family butchering history dates back to 1900 and he is passionate about sourcing only the best for The Food Store butchery. In store, Mayo reared Aberdeen Angus beef is dry aged for 21 days. Lamb is fully sourced from local farmers in Mayo and much of it is fattened on Niall’s own Lough Na Nannagh Farm. These are combined with traditional meats and cuts with a huge selection of ready to cook dishes in beef, lamb, pork and poultry.

Our shelves are stocked with a wide range of fine foods, including Velvet Cloud Sheeps Yoghurt, Cabot’s of Westport Hummus and Pesto, Green Earth Organics fruit and veg and much more.
